Thanks Hilton for such a great painting. I love the portrayal of a black man simply as a 'train commuter', without the trappings of stereotype. While culturally specific portrayals of people of colour definitely have their place, pieces such as yours, that present a narrative of relative ordinariness have a very important place. The Train Commuter is powerful in its subtle communication of unburdened dignity which everyone deserves regardless of colour. I of course also love the masterful blend of geometry and realism.
